Sunday 11.11.12

Thank you Veterans, we truly appreciate you and the future veterans currently serving!
Shooting.  Its fun.  It's demanding of your full attention and concentration and you can always continue improving. A shooting sport is a competitive sport involving tests of proficiency in Accuracy and Speed using various types of guns, bows, or any other object you can shoot.  Many people want their fitness routine to prove to them that it works in life, beyond how it makes you look and feel.  I'm one of those people and I found that CrossFit made me shoot more accurately, but I really can't tell you how.

I know that after doing a workout like many of you did yesterday,  "Kelly" (5 rounds: 400m Run, 30 Box Jumps, 30 Wall Balls), my shooting has improved over the years.  Maybe it's because I try to focus every workout on completing each rep Accurately irregardless of my time on the clock.  If my first Wall Ball looks exactly like my last Wall Ball; hips travelling below the knees, standing up and pressing the ball overhead to exactly above the 10 foot mark 150 times; then picking up a gun and shooting accurately without being short of breath becomes a piece of cake!

Yesterday I put my dad through a beginner's shooting course with Dave Adams and his business, BlueRidge Consulting and Firearms so he could begin working towards his CCW permit.  Many of you know Dave from the gym a while back.  Dave's instruction sounded a lot like CrossFit; preparing for the unknown, using the body as a whole, slowing down to get better reps completed before adding intensity.  Not much different than what we do and say at The Compound, eh?

With improving our fitness in mind, we wanted to get a group to go to the Center Mass Shooting Range in Vacaville.  If you have guns and are familiar with shooting, then bring them!  If not, we can provide basic instruction for you and you can learn.  That's the point of a shooting gallery, a safe place to learn how to shoot and manipulate your firearms.

We were thinking about doing it on a Friday evening, perhaps November 30th (The day after our Olympic Weightlifting Meet).  We are unsure of the cost and we may get a group rate depending on how many people join us, but here are their Range Rates:

* Hourly Rate - $10.00/hr

* Police / Fire/ Military Rate - $8.00/hr

* Gun Rental - $9.00

* Eye / Ear Protection - $1.00 for the set

* Targets - $1.00 each or three for $2.50

***Range ammo must be used in rental guns for insurance purposes***

Again, date of the outing and price may be negotiated based on the number of people who attend and if the range is available for our group that day.  But, we will hang up a sign up sheet by the water cooler and begin to get a group who is available to go.
